About me and this site

'The Mayor and Me' - a fuzzy picture of me receiving the 'James Hill Trophy' Sedgefield 2011, I retained the trophy in 2012.

The purpose of this site is to share my music. I hope you like the tunes and songs; they are inspired by my love of my home area, the North East, and of my Irish  and Scottish heritage. There are also some songs and tunes inspired by my experiences in my adopted city, Manchester.  You can choose songs or tunes from the Contents list; go through the music chronologically, or, if you click on tunes or songs at the top left of the page, you will see a list made up just of either tunes or of songs. At the bottom of the page is a link to previous posts. I am adding new tunes and songs on a regular basis, so, if you like what you hear, it will be worth coming back to the site from time to time to check for anything new.

Though some of my songs tell a story from the past I try to link them to the world today as I see it.

If you like the tunes and songs play and sing them, however I reserve the copyright and the music and words must not be performed commercially, recorded, or reprinted without my permission.

I play by ear and don’t read music, but friends who do read, Kath Ratcliffe, Bruce Rafeek, and Stewart Hardy have transcribed the dots for several of the tunes, and I hope in time to post the notation for more of them.  Thanks to Kath and Bruce and Stewart for their help, and to my son Martin for setting up this site.
